I ranked this run between 6 and 7 due to the running surfaces. This ranking is based on a scale with 1 as a hilly rail trail to a 10 as multiple 1,000 vertical foot climbs or climbing over 3,000 vertical feet in less than 10 miles.
I never ran a 10 yet, but the couple of the hardest races so far in my career were the Escarpment (Catkills, NY), ConestogaTrail Run (Lancaster, PA), Hyner View Challenge (Lock Haven, PA). The Susquehanna Super Hike (Lancaster/York,PA) is not far behind them ranking a 9. I feel the Megatransect (Lock Haven, PA) is a tough race which ranks a 9, but it approx. has 2 miles of blacktop roads in the beginning and end.
Vertical feet – a measurement of the elevation raise. For example, if you started at 600 feet above sea level and run up a hill that is 1,000 feet above sea level the vertical feet climbed would equal 400 feet.
